BBC PROMS 2019: OPENING NIGHT OF THE PROMS

Zosha has been commissioned by the BBC Proms for a world premiere on the Opening Night of the Proms 2019. Prom 1 features conductor Karina Canellakis leading the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers, and BBC Chorus in a program that also includes Dvorak’s The Golden Spinning Wheel and Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass.

Zosha’s work pays homage to the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s mission to the Moon.

PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA: LINEAGE

Conductor Karina Canellakis will make her Philadelphia Orchestra debut, leading two programs featuring the first Philadelphia Orchestra performances of Zosha’s Lineage, Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra, and pianist Emanuel Ax in Beethoven’s Second (February 6 & 8, 2020) and Third (February 7, 2020) piano concertos.

THE RHYTHM METHOD: PERMUTATIONS SERIES

The Rhythm Method string quartet will perform Zosha’s String Quartet No. 1 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York as part of the 2019 Permutations Series. This program by Millennial Percussion (Serge Vuille & Adrian Spillett), “String Motion Sensor,” is an invitation to take a fresh look at the symbiotic relationship between musical sound and motion. Violinist Maximillian Haft will perform Zosha’s Patina for solo violin, tamong other works by Christopher Lortie, Steven Snowden, Steve Reich, and Michael Daugherty.

TENTH INTERVENTION: COLECTIVO

In their Music of the Americas debut, ensemble Colectivo: Music from Cuba and New York, will present a chamber music program consisting of pieces by living composers who reside in Cuba and New York City. Zosha’s Du haut de l’Orillon will be performed by clarinetist Eric Umble, alongside music by Mario Diaz de Leon, Paul Pinto, and Gelsey Bell, among others.

Pianist Julia Den Boer and violinist Jennifer Choi held workshops at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, discussing Janáček’s, Zosha’s, and Eric Wubbel’s music for violin and piano. The duo also performed Michael Hersch’s Zwischen Leben und Tod.
